Travel insurance at affordable premiums

Ideas for that winter sun break

The skies are grey, the rain’s lashing down and there is a distinct chill in the air – as another English winter draws on, your dreams may be turning to much warmer climes. To help turn those dreams into reality, the following are some ideas for that winter sun break:

General

· thanks to cheap flights and affordable accommodation, the world is practically your oyster;

· chasing the winter sun, therefore, may be a simple question of deciding just how far you want to travel – a short or a long haul flight or perhaps a leisurely cruise;

· as destinations have become more varied and exotic, however, you might want to pay particular attention to the travel insurance you arrange – tailoring your needs to suit where it is you are going and what you might be doing when you get there, by consulting a specialist travel insurance provider such as ourselves at Bengo Travel;

· indeed, if you become truly bitten by the travel bug, you might want to consider annual multi-trip travel insurance, which keeps you safely protected the whole year round, wherever you go and however many trips you decide to make;

Where to go

· writing on the website 101 Holidays, Sunday Times travel writers David Wickers and Mark Hodson suggest a number of destinations, near and far, in various parts of the world;

· Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, is one of the destinations closest to home and just a four-hour flight away for the one in ten Britons likely to make this their break in the winter sun;

· somewhat further away, but still reached by daily non-stop flights, is the state of Florida in the United States, where the area around Orlando has become especially popular with Brits – thanks to a central location that gives immediate access to the resorts of Disney and MGM Studios, but also a short drive away from the beaches to the east and west of the peninsula or a longer drive south to the famous Keys;

· Dubai is known as the Riviera of the Middle East and a shade closer than Florida. Here there is a virtual guarantee of year-round sunshine and you need to put your watch forward just four hours for the time difference;

· Egypt is closer still and an historians dream come true thanks to its many archaeological treasures. A cruise on the Nile is on many a traveller’s wish list and the capital Cairo remains worthy of your consideration if you have time for only a short break. Be aware, though, that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is currently warning against all but essential travel to some parts of the country – and thus forewarned you might invalidate your travel insurance by going there;

· The Gambia in West Africa offers a combination of the familiar – well-appointed beach side hotels – and the adventurous – an interior that lives up to every fabled tale of the Dark Continent;

· The Caribbean remains one of the favourite winter sun getaways – especially for celebrities. But there are many, many islands from which to choose, so your chances of finding winter sun that also suits your budget - even if you aren’t a celebrity - is high.

Near or far, short haul or long haul, your choice of destinations for some winter sun has probably never been greater or more varied.
